it seems that soviet influence is really high this time..

I like the gas mask look. An overall very nice design.

Finally! 20 years later it’s a worthy successor to my all time favorite design- the Zaku FZ! Looking forward to this one…

Comment by Dman

That rifle is very Kalashnikov inspired. Looks like a cool kit what with all the extras.

The arsenal provided is amazing, given this is a mass production type. The details are crisp for 1/144 scale kit and painting doesn’t look like a nightmare either. I like the Geara Doga-inspired beam sword axe too.

Niiiiice, I’ve got a copy. It’s pretty adorable.

Comment by DarkCode

why does a gun need iron sight when it has laser sight?

Comment by realgundam

just in case the laser sight is not working

Comment by 00 hater

@dark code

it shows how popular you are

Comment by 00 hater

@realgundam: actually the laser sight is a decoy..

While I would agree that there is some Soviet influence, I think that the Zulu is based more on Wehrmacht-themed design. The rifle looks more like a StG44 than an AK-47, for one. Also, the head resembles a stahlhelm/gasmask combination perfectly. However, the rocket launcher is pretty much a dead ringer for the Soviet RPG-7. All-in-all I’d say that the Geara Zulu is just another example of Gundam’s bad guys being analogues for real life “bad guys” of world conflict. Funny how the Gundam looks most like a samurai…

Nah, it’s just Katoki trying even harder to make Zeon space Nazis than Izubuchi. Frankly I think Geara Zulu is a terrible design. The only saving grace is that it looks somewhat like a simplified Geara Doga and that can use Geara Doga equipment – makes sense for the state Neo Zeon is in.

@da_guy
I agree with you. It does seem like they are really hitting us over the head with the “space Nazi” design ethos, huh? I’m not much of a fan of the Zulu, either. I much prefer the Geara Doga. Realistically, shouldn’t Neo Zeon (or what’s left of it) still be using whatever Dogas they have lying around instead of making new MS that don’t seem that much better than their predecessors? It’s not like they have a lot of money to throw around for R&D.

Comment by arkeothehedgehog

You do know that the Geara Zulu is still a Geara, right? It’s in the name and all. It’s not really a stretch to assume they rebuilt the remaing frames into these cheaper looking successors. They’re not really the most advanced suits to begin with. Besides, Zeon has always been backed by private companies and funded by shady back alleys deals within the Earth Sphere itself. Anaheim did build the Sazabi for Char knowing full well what he intended. Likewise, the Sinanju was also built for Zeon to begin with even before being stolen by the remnants. Also, these are Zeon separatists to begin with. They’re a faction within Zeon itself, not the whole of Zeon.

Comment by Amon

In the novel, Doga are still in service. From the looks of it Zulu is meant to be a cheap bash between Zakus and Doga for economics. It’s probably inferior to the Doga since commander type Zulus actually have more Doga parts (shield, backpack and HW pack). I find those new weapons the worst – just clones of real world weapons without aesthetic changes for MS and consistency with older designs. MS weapons are not supposed to look EXACTLY like real guns.

Comment by da_guy

thanks for clearing that up for me. I’ve not read Unicorn and know very little about the story. I really appreciate the information.

Comment by arkeothehedgehog

@arkeothehedgehog: wow.. now that you mention it.. I don’t have that kind information before.. thanks anyway..

well if i’m not mistaken doga still use beam rifle as it’s main weapon right? while the zulu use rifle as it’s main weapon..

Comment by MaftyNavue

I think both using beam machine gun for sure.

Comment by Epsilon_013

Hmn, seems like the Geara Zulu lacks the movable second grip on the rifle that Gundam is so fond of. Honestly, I’m fine with that.

I guess I’m the only one who likes it, but to each his own. I think I’ll hold off for the inevitable Royal Guard version, though.

Also… you guys are seriously complaining about “lol zeon is space nazis”? This has been around since MSG. It’s not going away any time soon. You might as well complain about Gundams being white, blue, and red.

Comment by Hiro

“You might as well complain about Gundams being white, blue, and red.”

i’ve been complaining about that since a very long time ago…you are right though, even the OYW progress is similar to the real WWII from what i read from some magazine

Comment by 00 hater

@Hiro

The complaint is mostly about the suit design not whether Zeon acted like space Nazi. There were plenty of Zeon designs in early UC that doesn’t look like something out of WWII. This WWII style all started with Izubuchi’s 0080 designs and you start to see DOM wielding sturm faust, Zaku using MMP90 and all kinds of retro weapons. Now we just have virtual WWII clones.

Comment by da_guy

I wonder if in the future, enemy mecha designs will resemble Islamic extremists. Then they’d be “Space jihadists”!

Comment by Jerry k

@da_guy

I don’t know, having upsized copies of WWII weaponry doesn’t really bother me, personally, because it looks right in the early UC. I’d be bothered if they did it in F91 or Crossbone or any of the AUs, but it seems to fit the early bits of the UC.

Now, the problem is that early UC happens to be the most cluttered section of the Gundam multiverse.

the suits look such cause maybe bandai or tomino or the designers didnt want us to forget about WWII and history repeats itself.

now you see that a suit is more that what it seems. hehehe

Comment by ahead

@Dman: Actually it’s a successor to the Geara Doga from Char’s Counterattack.
