other than the character design, Barnage somehow looks really different than the novel version

An anime version calls for greater details, Banagher and Minerva designs maybe more detailed than Yasuhiko’s simplified version but I personally prefer Yasuhiko’s style when it comes to facial expressions.

The mechas however, are simplified to a state of blandness and I find it a waste as Sunrise can resort to use 3D with toon-shader to animate the mechs and keep the details at the same time. Satelight’s Macross Frontier and Gonzo’s Blue-6 are fine examples of blending 2D and 3D. Unless Sunrise is game to produce something as high quality as Miyazaki’s…

I always think it’s best to reserve judgment until we see it in action.

If it is for me, he somehow looks a lot like Katsu Kobayashi… Katsu…

Barnage looks a bit like Kamille Bidan from Z Gundam, but with brown hair…

Uh, codename:v, you mean the other way around. The novelization pictures are more detailed for both the characters and the mecha while the anime versions are dumb down.

I’m not seeing the so-called simplification of the designs. They don’t look that different, just a slightly different style, nothing to complain about.

@Gundam Guy: worse… it’s like… Kamille + Four, LOL!
I hope they don’t screw this like they did with CCA (vs Beltorchika’s Children)

Man, this picture is so awesome! I saved it and it’s my desktop wallpaper now! Anyone else done the same?

Frankly, I wouldn’t really expect anything substantially better than the fresh animation used in A New Translation. If it’s fantastic, hey, awesome, but don’t get your hopes up for anything revolutionary.
